Russell Branyan in talks with Mets

Inside sources are reporting that the New York Mets are in talks with, and likely to sign, the soon to be 34 year old 1B/OF Russell Branyan. Last season Branyan batted .251 with 31 Homeruns and 76 RBI's for the Seattle Mariners. If Branyan does in fact sign with the Mets, this could mean the end to Carlos Delgado's reign in NY.

Russell BranyanThis is shocking news to many New Yorkers who were disappointed after last years injury plagued debacle of a season, and hoped that the Mets would dive into free agency with a splash. This possible signing would be quite the opposite and possibly a foreshadowing into the rest of the off season. The Mets glaring needs this off season are at Catcher, Left Field, First Base, and on the mound. Branyan's signing could help fill this role, but also sheds light on how the Mets want to solve their problems. If Russell “The Muscle” does in fact sign, look for the Mets to drop out of the Adrian Gonzalez sweepstakes.

This breaking news will only fuel the flames in New York where outraged fans were looking for an off season filled with stars, big names and block buster deals. However, yet another disappointment according to those standards, may be in store this off season for many Met fans.
