The Brewers who Signed Wolf

Brewers Sign Randy WolfRandy Wolf has reportedly inked a three-year deal worth close to $30 million with the Milwaukee Brewers. The deal is contingent upon Wolf passing a physical.

This is a nice addition for the Brewers, which pick up a veteran lefty that is able to eat innings and have a moderate ERA in the 3's. Wolf will become the Brewers #2 option behind ace Yovani Gollardo. The Brewers were last in the National League in starting pitching ERA at 5.37.

Wolf was the Dodgers most consistent starter for the Dodgers last season going 11-7 with a 3.23 ERA in 34 starts. But with Clayton Kershaw on the rise, and Chad Billingsley showing what he's capable of, the Dodgers decided to go a different direction. The Dodgers didn’t want to pay Wolf the $10 million it was believed he could earn through arbitration. The club chose not to offer him arbitration and he immediately became one of the most desirable pitching free agents on the market along with John Lackey.

As a Type A free agent, the Dodgers would have received Milwaukee’s first-round draft pick and a sandwich pick in next year’s amateur draft. Since the Dodgers let him become an unrestricted free agent, the Dodgers receive nothing, the Brewers start to solidify their pitching, Wolf receives nearly $30 million and, something he’s desired for years, job security.
