NBA Hall of Famer Julius Erving Gives Back at Jonathan Ogden’s Golf Outing
NBA legend and Hall of Famer Julius Erving stopped by to chat with Jared Ginsberg of Class Act Sports while at Jonathan Ogden’s fifth annual Golf Tournament in Las Vegas in June.
“JO {Jonathan Ogden} is a great guy. He’s been doing this for five years. He’s been raising funds for the community. He’s been I guess ingratiating himself with this community of Las Vegas which is his home, and is kind of like a second home for me, so it was easy to say yes,” Irving told Class Act Sports.
Erving played for the Virginia Squires and New York Nets of the ABA before a 12-year NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers from 1976-1987. He won an NBA title in 1983 and was voted one of the 50 greatest players of all time.
“For me, it is just part of my modus operandi. I was given so much as a youngster. I was involved with the Salvation Army recreation. I was involved with March of Dimes, YMCAs. There were groups around who reached out when I was a child and gave me a helping hand, so if I can be here, I want to do the same thing, give a helping hand,” Erving said.
