Brent Celek: Teammate McCoy a Class Act, Remembers His Roots

Prior to the 2011 NFL season, the Eagles were dubbed the “Dream Team”, expected by many to compete for-and perhaps win- the Super Bowl. But before the season even began, Brent Celek and some of his Eagles teammates made dreams come true for many children as part of the LeSean McCoy Foundation’s annual Shady Community Day.

Eagles tight end Celek told Class Act Sports in an exclusive interview,

“I think it’s always important for the guys to give back to the community. And I also think it’s important for us as teammates to support each other. So anything that LeSean wants to do, in helping to give back, I’m going to help him do it.”

And while he has been nothing short of a superstar, emerging as one of the best running backs in the NFL, McCoy remains humble and makes time to give back to his community. McCoy created the foundation to help raise money for cancer patients, but also gives back to the community with as his annual “Shady Community Day”, in which kids get to play sports and get autographs from their favorite Eagles players.

“When a lot of guys get to the NFL, sometimes they forget. And for LeSean to come back and give back like he does every year, I think its great and its very important,” Celek said of the event, which took place in McCoy’s hometown of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

And while the Dream Team went 8-8 missing the playoffs for the first time since 2007, McCoy went on to have his best year as a pro, with 20 total touchdowns, including 17 rushing touchdowns in 2011- both setting new franchise records. He was also named to the All-Pro first team and a starter for the NFC Pro Bowl team.

Celek got off to a slow start to the season, but finished with five receiving touchdowns and over 800 receiving yards for the Eagles, who should be a Super Bowl contender again in 2012.
