Joe Namath Hosts March of Dimes Celebrity Golf Classic
Historic Bethpage State Park on Long Island, New York was lit up again on September 22, 2011 for a charity golf tournament of epic proportions. The annual Joe Namath March of Dimes Celebrity Golf Classic saw 109 celebrities and athletes competing on three courses to support one of the more prominent and popular charities in the country. Jared Ginsberg and Victor Green of Class Act Sports covered the event from the parking lot to the 18th green, speaking to everyone who made this excellent event possible.
“Joe [Namath] is a real good friend of mine, just to be here and be a part of this event, coming out of comradery with all the guys that you haven’t seen in awhile. For our company to be here, to be in the midst of it, you know, it’s just showing what our company is becoming,” said an excited Victor Green.
While Namath is a legend for the New York Jet faithful, he’s also recognized as a hero with the March of Dimes, volunteering with the organization for the past 40 years. The Celebrity Golf Classic has become one of the more profitable events for the charity, and is a favorite among New York-area athletes past and present.
“It’s a team effort man, life is that way. Everybody that lends a hand from the sponsors, volunteers, [Class Act Sports]…We got dealt a good hand and some people have a tougher time, and we need to help them out,” said Namath.
Ginsberg and Green caught up with many of the day’s participants, including an array of NFL Hall of Famers such as Richard Dent, Randall McDaniel, John Randle, Kellen Winslow Sr., Ted Hendricks, and Eric Dickerson.
Joining the gleaming list of guests were players and celebrities including Jonathan Ogden, Darryl Strawberry, Greg Buttle, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, David Leisure, Ben Bailey, Gary Sheffield, and many more.
