Two-time Super Bowl winner Carl Banks recalls the Big Game with the Giants

Former NFL linebacker Carl Banks knows a thing or two about winning a Super Bowl. Banks won two Super Bowls while with the New York Giants, and said the first was his fondest memory as a player.

Speaking exclusively to Victor Green of Class Act sports at J. Erving’s 6 sports event in Pennsylvania in July, Banks said:

“I would have to say the first Super Bowl, XXI. It was probably the best game I’ve ever played. If you could have a great game and save it for the Super Bowl, I think it was as complete a game as I ever could have played.”

Just how good was Banks in that game? He had 14 tackles, including 10 solo, and four tackles for a loss.  Earlier this season, the Giants had a ceremony honoring that team.

“We just celebrated our 25th anniversary of that Super Bowl and we got every player and coach back. It was a special moment because it was like being in the ‘Hot Tub Time Machine’- all the characters were still the same characters and everything was the same,” Banks said.

And with the way the current Giants team is playing, there could be a reunion in their future if they go on to beat the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. The Giants have allowed 65 points in its past five games, and the defense is echoing that of Carson and the “Big Blue Wrecking Crew” of the 1980’s.

Banks, who played for 12 seasons, was named to the 1980’s All-Decade team, has kept busy these days as an analyst for the Giants on the teams’ radio station, WFAN. He also works on some of his own projects.

“I have an apparel company, and I do all the major sports. I do active wear, outerwear, and I have an electronics company, so things are looking good for me,” Banks said.
